Profile Update: Social Media and Blog

Thanks to Awesome Lady Julie M. for her technical assistance with “Edit”.

This article is an extension of the post in the Introductions forum last week about adding social media and blog information to your profile. That post covered updating your profile using the ALP website. This article will address using the ALP app to update your profile and will repeat the ALP website process at the end.

Disclaimer: I am an Android user. I have been assured the process I describe is very similar on Apple devices. If you are an Apple user, and notice significant differences, please leave a comment so I can update this post!

Let’s get to it.

Update Your Profile on the ALP App

ALP app home page with arrow pointing to the More button in the lower right corner of the page.

On the app Home page menu bar, select the More icon.

On the More page, select the Member section

On the Member page, select Profile.

On the Profile page, in the upper right corner of the screen, select the Edit button.

On the Edit Profile page, select the Edit section.

Select the Basics button. The Website/Blog field is the first field in this section. Enter the full URL for your blog site, including the http:// or https:// prefix.

The default Visibility setting is Connections. If you want everyone in the Membership to see your profile, information, update the setting. Click the People icon just above the URL field.

The Visibility Settings display. Select the setting you want. The app makes the change and returns to the Edit Profile page.

Next, select the Social Media button. Enter the full URL for your social media sites, not just your handle or name on the site. Don’t forget to include the http:// or https:// prefix.

Also, don’t forget to update your Visibility settings for your Social Media items.

After updating your profile, save your changes. Select Save, located in the upper right corner of the page.

Test the links:

Use the Back link (upper left corner of the page) to go back to the Profile page.

On the Profile page, if you have entered Social Media information, you’ll see icons for those Social Media apps. (Example has icons for Instagram and Twitter).

Click on an icon. If the link was set up correctly, you should see the Home page in the Social Media app.

If you have entered blog information, scroll down to the Basics section of the Profile page. Click on the link in the Website/Blog field. The link should take you to the Home page of your blog.

If your blog or social media information doesn’t display when you select it in the Profile page, click the Edit button to go back through the Edit Profile process to check for errors. It’s usually something simple like an extra space in the URL or a typo.

That’s how you add your social media and blog information to your profile using the ALP app. Now let’s look at the process using the ALP website.

Update Your Profile on the ALP Website

In the upper right corner of any page on the ALP website, select the dropdown arrow next to your name.

Then from the slide out menu, select Edit. The Edit Profile page displays.

On the page’s tab menu:

Select Basics to add your blog URL

Select Social Media to add your social media information.

Test the links:

Click on the social media icons in the profile header (if you added any)

Click on the website/blog URL in the Base section

If you do not see you your social media or website/blog, Click on the Edit button on the page (see below) to go back to the Edit Profile page to check your entry. It’s likely a typo is trying to ruin your social media presence.

That’s how you update your profile using the ALP website. I hope you find this information helpful!

Again, Apple users: if you notice significant differences when you try to update your Profile, please leave a comment with the details. Thanks in advance!
