Find Your Voice

You are an amazing human and you’ve got amazing stories to tell — whether they’re of the adventures you’ve taken around the world, or the books that you love to read curled up on your couch.

Learning how to tell authentic stories about your life starts with figuring out who you are as the storyteller.

Over the next six weeks, we will learn more about ourselves, our stories, what we love, and the things that drive us to tell our own stories.

You might think that you need to journal for pages, or have an English degree, or know *exactly what you want to say* every single time to start telling the stories of your life. Nope.

The legit truth is you can tell your stories with just:

a pen & a simple notebook

your computer, phone, or tablet

or literally any creative supplies that make you happy

Find Your Voice is a six-week workshop that is going to help you learn to trust your gut, learn to trust your intuition, and dive deeper into who you are as the storyteller.

By the end of this workshop, you will have:

  • Figuring out who you are as a storyteller
  • Determining the types of stories you want to tell
  • Figure out what you want these stories to look and feel like
  • Establishing who your story audience is, and learning to tailor your stories for them (or you)
  • Embracing your role as storyteller, both for your own stories and as stewards of other people’s stories
  • Creating a plan of action and building your storytelling arsenal with tips and techniques to bring out your unique voice

Here is the full breakdown of

rukristin’s Find Your Voice

1. Welcome Session

In this live welcome session (also recorded and put into the classroom) , you’ll learn everything you need to know about Find Your Voice. I’ll give you a rundown on the workbook, the live lessons and the community, so that you know everything that’s going on in this workshop.

Welcome sessions will be held on Saturday May 23rd at 7pm EST and Sunday May 24th at 2pm EST. Questions welcome.

2. Exclusive Find Your Voice Workbook

Workbooks are my favorite. This one is AMAZING and is honestly everything you need to guide you through your Find Your Voice journey. It has content from the lessons, it has worksheets, it has prompts, and so much more. This workbook is a resource that you’ll be able to return to, with your own personal notes, over and over again.

3. LIVE Weekly (and recorded) Video Lessons

Every Monday at 2pm ET from May 25th through June 29th I’ll be teaching that week’s lesson live on Zoom.

These lessons are the core of our Find Your Voice workshop. Each week I’ll be introducing a new theme for the week, and we’ll be talking through the week’s content, talking about the worksheets, and discussing that week’s prompts.

Everything that you need to know for that week’s lesson will be discussed in the weekly live lesson on Mondays at 2pm ET.

These lessons will be recorded and placed in the Find Your Voice classroom later on Monday afternoon and then emailed out to you as soon as the video is up in the classroom. So even if you can’t make it out for our live lesson, you’ll never miss a single thing!

4) Find Your Voice Classroom Hub

You’ll get access to the Find Your Voice classroom hub. Inside the classroom will be all of the workshop resources as they come up.

Each lesson will open up on Monday mornings with new content, bonus content will have its own place, and you will have access to this content as long as you keep your ALP account.

It also means that you can come back and watch your favorite Find Your Voice content over and over again. You will retain access to this course and these videos even after our July 3rd end date!

Our community is here for you throughout the entire process, with galleries, forums, an amazing activity feed and a kick-ass social media space for a much healthier scroll.

You will get exclusive access to the Find Your Voice community group, where you can engage with other students about things happening in class, other creative endeavors, or whatever else is going on in your life.

You’ll retain access to this community after our workshop has finished up, so your friendships and conversations can continue to flourish.

Hey, I’m rukristin,

and here’s why I’m so passionate about this:

rukristin welcome

Hi, I’m Kristin (aka rukristin: Feminist Scrapbooker) and I have been telling my stories for more than twenty years. I’ve made hundreds of scrapbooks and tens of thousands of scrapbook pages.

But, telling my story has not always come easy. Throughout my journey (usually as a scrapbooker) I’ve had people tell me that I have no business telling my story because I don’t have a proper family (kids or a husband), or that I shouldn’t bother talking about my life because why would anyone ever care about that stuff anyway? Legitimate real-life trolls and haters. I kid you not, there were actually human beings who said this stuff to my face.

But I don’t tell my stories for them, I do it for myself. I do it because I LOVE stories. And furthermore, I love telling my stories in my own unique way. I’m a paper person. I love playing with pretty paper. I’m a picture person, I love taking photos (even when all I had was a disposable camera in middle school). I love gathering up the bits of life and sticking them into notebooks.

Did it bother me when those randos were like, that thing that you’re passionate about? It’s stupid and it doesn’t matter. Sure, but only for a second. I’m never going to get validation from every single person in the world, and my time is so much better spent, seeking validation from myself. And so is yours.

My struggles haven’t always been external either. I have two overlapping headache disorders that have made my day pretty painful. Through a lot of hard work with the right doctor and figuring out a lifestyle that works for me. I can spend more days creating + longer hours at my desk. And through it all, scrapbooking was there for me when a lot of things no longer could be.

Even when I couldn’t get off the couch; I brought my supplies to the coffee table.

Even when I couldn’t go out as much as I used to, I started scrapbooking things like my favorite TV shows and the things I was making for dinner.

Even when my face was swollen from a migraine, I still snapped a selfie because this is my life and the struggle is part of the story.

I learned that when I told the hard stories:

  1. It made me more grateful for the good stories
  2. While it was happening the hard stuff didn’t seem as hard
  3. Afterward, upon reflection, (realized just how strong and resilient I was during those hard times
  4. There is still so much joy & creativity during the hard times and I owed it to myself to practice that as much as possible

I have taught thousands of women how to tell their stories through scrapbooks, through Daily Pages, and other storytelling projects. Whether you’re just starting out and only have a notebook and a pen, or you’ve got a room or two filled with supplies, there are a few things I know about women like us. We are capable women. We know that women’s stories have been sidelined for too long, even if we don’t know exactly where to start with our own.

We have awesome stories and we do really cool things with our lives. We are teachers, we are students, we craft, we swim, we read, we are people moms, we are plant moms, we live in New York, Kansas, Australia, and so many other amazing places on this planet. Whether we are world travelers or we love staying at home all the time or something in between, we all have lives worth documenting and I’m passionate about helping you document yours.

I know that your story matters. I know that you are the best person to tell that story. You are the only person who has been there the entire time, and that makes you uniquely qualified to tell your stories.

You might say that you don’t have the time or you don’t have the talent or you don’t have the supplies.

None of that matters.

You can do this in 5 minutes a day.

It doesn’t take talent to start writing down notes into a notebook.

You don’t need a ton of supplies to get started. All you need is a notebook and whatever else you have at home.

The only thing that’s standing in your way is your misconception of what telling your story is and has to be.

Telling your story can be a badass empowering form of documenting your life where you choose the rules and I’m just here to make it as easy + accessible as possible.

You are the best person to tell your story. Let me teach you how to tell your stories the way you want to tell them, even if you have no idea what that is yet.

Together we’ll figure out how storytelling works for you and your creative life.

Your life does not look like everyone else’s life, so it’s okay to find solutions that don’t look like everyone else’s. That’s exactly what is going to make finding your voice and telling your stories absolutely incredible. Join me for this workshop and learn to find your inner storytelling voice.
